What does a website audit actually check?

Ten categories, each scored out of 100 and weighted by how much it affects your traffic and revenue. Every finding comes with the evidence we found and the exact change that fixes it.

18% of score

SEO

Titles, meta descriptions, headings, canonicals, structured data, sitemaps and internal linking — everything that decides whether search engines can find and rank the page.

14% of score

Performance

Page weight, compression, caching, render-blocking scripts and image delivery. The causes behind slow loading, not just the symptoms.

12% of score

Core Web Vitals

LCP, CLS and INP from real Chrome users where available. These are the metrics Google actually ranks on.

12% of score

Accessibility

WCAG 2.2 Level AA checks: alt text, form labels, landmarks, ARIA, keyboard access and contrast — the failures that carry legal exposure.

12% of score

Security

TLS certificate health, security headers, cookie flags, mixed content and exposed secrets. Passive inspection only.

10% of score

Content quality

Depth, structure, readability, keyword alignment, freshness and authorship signals.

8% of score

Mobile friendliness

Viewport configuration, tap-target size, text sizing and responsive images. Google indexes mobile-first, for every site.

6% of score

AI readiness

Whether ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI systems can reach, parse and cite your page — an increasingly large share of discovery.

5% of score

Technical health

Status codes, redirect chains, encoding, duplicate IDs, soft 404s and crawl efficiency.

3% of score

Conversion

Whether a visitor is given a clear next step, and whether the trust signals that support that decision are present.

How does it work?

  1. 1

    Enter your URL

Type any public web address. We validate it, check it resolves, and confirm it is a real page before doing anything else.

  2. 2

    We audit it once, thoroughly

One fetch of your page feeds all ten analyzers. Alongside it we read your robots.txt and sitemap, inspect your TLS certificate, sample your links, and pull real-user Core Web Vitals from Google.

  3. 3

You get a plan, not a list

Findings are grouped into prioritised recommendations with an estimated score gain and a time estimate for each, so you know what to do first and roughly how long it takes.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a website audit take?
Most audits finish in 15 to 45 seconds. The engine fetches your page once, runs all ten analyzer suites against it, checks robots.txt and your sitemap, samples your links for broken ones, inspects your TLS certificate, and pulls Core Web Vitals from Google's PageSpeed Insights.
Do I need to install anything on my website?
No. CheckMySites audits your site the same way a search engine does — by requesting the public page. There is no script to add, no DNS change, and no verification step.
What does CheckMySites cost?
Plans start at $4.99 a month for 30 audits. Growth is $15.99 for 200 audits with API access, and Scale is $39.99 for 700 audits with white-label reports. There is no free tier — you can enter a URL to see what the audit covers, but running one requires an account.
What is an AI readiness score?
It measures whether AI assistants can use your page. That means checking your robots.txt for blocks on retrieval crawlers like OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot, confirming your content is server-rendered rather than JavaScript-only, and verifying that your structured data and heading hierarchy make individual passages quotable. Most AI crawlers do not run JavaScript, so a client-rendered page is invisible to them even when Google sees it fine.
Can I share a report with a client or a developer?
Yes. Every report gets a private share link that needs no account, and you can export to PDF, CSV or JSON. On the Scale plan, reports carry your branding instead of ours.
How is the overall score calculated?
Each of the ten categories starts at 100 and loses points for failing checks, weighted by severity. Categories are then combined using fixed weights — SEO 18%, performance 14%, Core Web Vitals 12%, accessibility 12%, security 12%, content 10%, mobile 8%, AI readiness 6%, technical 5% and conversion 3%. Warnings cost 40% of the equivalent failure.
